Library/Information Skills Lesson Plan
Using the OPAC
Subject: Any
Grade level: 6th
Information & 21st Skill Objectives:
Inquire: Create: Learners engage with new knowledge by following a process that includes using evidence to investigate questions.
AASL.IV.B.1 Curate: Create: Learners gather information appropriate to the task by seeking a variety of sources.
AASL.VI.A.3 Engage: Think: Learners follow ethical and legal guidelines for gathering and using information by evaluating information for accuracy, validity, social, and cultural context, and appropriateness for need.
Materials:
Projection devices such as a projector or Smart board/Smart TV
Student devices or school computers such as Chromebooks
Instructional Procedures:
1. The librarian will greet students as they walk in and sit at the tables
2. The librarian will share how organization works in the library
3. The librarian will demonstrate using the OPAC as review (or an introduction for new students)
4. Review checkout procedures and have students model the expected behavior if time allows it
5. If time allows, students should practice finding books using OPAC.

Guided notes/cheat sheet (step-by-step guides of how to log in to resources)
Assessment:
Students demonstrate using the OPAC system to find the books they are searching for.
*This can can be a great time to get students to sign Acceptable Use Policies
