Library Treasure Map


Subject: Social Studies


Grade level: 5th


Information & 21st Skill Objectives:

V. Explore- A. (Think): The school library supports learners' personal curiosity by (2)

Fostering opportunities for learners to demonstrate personal curiosity

and creation of knowledge through engaging with a wide variety of resources and technology.

Materials: 

  • Pens/ pencils/ colored pencils/ crayons

  • Blank paper

Instructional Procedures: 

1. The librarian will provide students a blank paper and pencils

2. The librarian will ask: "Do you know the location of all the books in this library?"

and wait for a verbal response from the students

3. Librarian will ask the students to explore the library and create a map based on what

types of books they see in different sections of the library;

for example: label a section "sports", "novels", "manga", etc.

4. The students will explore the library and create their own treasure map, marking locations based

on what they notice on the shelves

5. Students will decorate their maps and present them once they finish;

the librarian will explain the different resources and sections that the library has

that they can access

  • Partner work

  • ThingLink design

  • Whole class map

Assessment:

Students demonstrate knowledge of the library and materials/resources available to them

based on what sections they found and

present what they have found.
